With her creative Crayon Resist die-cut card last week, Julie issued a mission for me to make a card this week featuring that same technique. I believe it has been years since I worked with crayon resist, but the card pictured in this post was just my second attempt. I found that Crayola's "Baby Powder" white crayon works wonders! I stamped the image onto glossy white card stock using StazOn ink, and then used the crayon where I wanted the image to resist ink. I used Stampin' Sponges to color the card stock with Lucky Limeade and Marina Mist ink and then tissued off the excess ink to reveal the highlights. Stamped images are from Stampin' Up!'s "Serene Silhouettes" and "Fabulous Phrases" stamp sets, and the oval punches that I used are also from Stampin' Up! My card stock colors are Basic Black, Lucky Limeade, and Marina Mist.

"STORYTIME" QUAD SLIDE MAILER
Yesterday, I posted a project using a canvas board that's part of a bulk buy opportunity, and the project I'm posting today--a quad microscope slide mailer--is another bulk buy item, as are the slides. When I received these items, I knew immediately that I wanted to use Stampin' Up!'s "Storytime"

designer paper to create a teacher-themed project. Of course, I had my sister in mind as I was working on this. She works full-time as an assistant in a Kindergarten classroom, but she's also a full-time student working toward her teaching degree. She is the epitome of an excellent teacher and has always been so good with children, and I thought the poem that I found on the 'net was quite descriptive of her. Other Stampin' Up! products used to create this project include the "Measuring Stick" builder wheel (which I converted to a clear-mount stamp), "Fabulous Phrases" stamp set, Jewelry Tag punch, glimmer brads, scallop dotted ribbon, and satin pleated ribbon. After adhering the paper to the mailer, I used a Sponge Dauber and Soft Suede ink to distress the edges. If you'd like to know how to purchase any of the bulk buy products, let me know!

"POSTAGE DUE" SUMMER CANVAS
Mixed Media is an art style that has recently started calling to me, mostly because there is no right or wrong way to do it. You just grab some supplies and start working and, along the way, you think of something else to add. It's okay if you end up covering an area that you were trying to get "just right" a few minutes prior. It's even easy to cover up a mistake or what looks like a blemish to you. As a member of the Creative Team for a bulk buy group, I received a big box of goodies yesterday. Among the items in the box were some Artist Canvas Panels, and I chose one of the 5x7 panels to work with this morning. The first thing that I did was lay down torn strips of Stampin' Up!'s "First Edition" designer paper, and this was accomplished with ModPodge. I then spritzed the canvas with Pacific Point and Lucky Limeade using Stampin' Up!'s new "Stampin' Spritzer" bottles. I even added Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint to the Pacific Point spritzer, but you can't really see the glimmer in my photos. I used My Digital Studio to create the "live in the sunshine" tag, and the dimensional flower was a found item in my stash of punched & die-cut items. I just added the Vintage Faceted designer button with a Baker's twine bow! Also in my stash of items-prepped-but-never-used was a piece of Whisper White card stock that had been embossed with the Square Lattice embossing folder. I used the Word Window punch and paper trimmer to create the fence for my canvas, and the Daffodil Delight butterfly was also a found item in my stash. Additional Stampin' Up! products used to create this project include "Postage Due" stamp set, "Viola's Lace" Builder wheel (which I converted to a clear-mount stamp), and rhinestone jewels. This project would be perfect for a class! If you would like information about how to purchase the canvas panels, let me know. The bulk buy opportunity for this item will end on June 29th.Monday, June 25, 2012
"MAKE-IT-SNAPPY-MONDAY"
Happy Monday to you! It's time for another MISM project, and this one features one of Stampin' Up!'s new hostess stamp sets, "Four Seasons", and one of the new "Delicate Designs" embossing folders. I used an Aqua Painter and Summer Starfruit ink to highlight four of the embossed floral designs and added a rhinestone jewel to all four of them, plus one in the center of the stamped butterfly. Other Stampin' Up! products used to create this card include the Scallop Circle die, 2-3/8" Scallop Circle punch, 1-1/4" and 1" Circle punches, Stampin' Dimensionals, Artichoke denim ribbon (retired), and "Friendly Phrases" stamp set. I have to admit, and I may stand alone with my opinion, but the Summer Starfruit color is really beginning to grow on me! When I first saw it, I immediately frowned and wondered WHY Stampin' Up! would choose the color of what one might find in a baby's diaper after his tummy ache subsides, but I'm learning that this color works much like a neutral in that it coordinates nicely with many colors. I don't know that this color will be as beloved by me as Mellow Moss, but you haven't seen the last of it from me.

NAUTICAL SCRAPLING
After being at the beach this past week and without ANY stamping or paper crafting supplies, I just had to sit down tonight and make a card so I would know that I haven't forgotten how. This is a very simple "scrapling" where, for the most part, I used scrap card stock. Of course, this card isn't a standard size, but it will fit in an A2 envelope. Stampin' Up! products used to create this quick card include Whisper White, Daffodil Delight, Poppy Parade (retired), and Pacific Point card stock, white Baker's twine, 1-3/4" Circle punch, and the brand new Chevron embossing folder. I used an Aqua Painter and ink (Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight, and Pacific Point) to color the rope designs on the sentiment.

"FREESTYLE FRIDAYS"
Happy Friday to you!!! It's time for Freestyle Fridays, and it's Julie's turn to inspire us this week with a project. Pictured above is the sneak peek photo that she sent to me, but we'll have to visit her blog to learn all about it. She's always trying something new or different, and I hope you'll hop over to her blog for her project details and to also read about the mission that she comes up with for me. You might want to try it, too!

"PATIO PARTY" POP-UP CARD
I barely have time to write this post, but I wanted to share a really fun pop-up card that I designed for my Inkerbelles' class last Friday. This card features Stampin' Up!'s "Patio Party" designer paper, which has the most fun patterns! This paper collection is so versatile with a great color palette! I also used the tulip image from "Bright Blossoms" to stamp inside the Blossom punched window, and the sentiment inside the card is from the "Curly Cute" stamp set.

"MEMORABLE MOMENTS" - IT'S CHAD'S BIRTHDAY!
Twenty-one years ago, I went to the hospital to have a baby (via C-section). I'd been carrying the baby for just under ten months, and it had been a very easy pregnancy--no morning sickness, no issues. During one of my last check-ups, the doctor who was examining me got "a look" on his face and said he wanted to get an ultrasound because "I could swear this baby is moving up instead of down into the birth canal". Sure enough . . . the ultrasound revealed that the baby not only was moving up, he was in a breech position which, under normal circumstances, they would try to turn him, but there was a concern about the position of his legs--one was up and one was down. It concerned me when three doctors came into the room to tell me this and that I would have to have a C-section. What they didn't know is that I would have gladly signed up for a C-section nearly 10 months prior, so this wasn't bad news to me. On the morning of the scheduled surgery, the baby's heartbeat and movement was being monitored as I waited for the surgery, and the baby was doing a LOT of moving! It had been a while since he had moved that much and, as I watched the frequent ripples across my swollen belly and listened to the heartbeat, I was getting concerned because I knew full-term babies shouldn't have enough room for that much movement. As it turned out, he had a bowel movement, which must have caused all of the pre-birth movement. Chad came into this world two weeks past his due date at 8 lbs. 12 oz. I never had a contraction, my water never broke, and I didn't experience natural childbirth, but I know all about motherhood and how a heart just naturally swells when a baby boy takes his place in it. For the past 21 years, my life has been richly blessed with watching that baby become a young adult, and he is still my best buddy! Through the years, he has amazed me, worried me and, at times, angered me, but he makes me laugh like no one else. Today, I am thankful for him and for the many ways he continues to bless my life and melt my heart. Happy Birthday, Chad!!!! I love you more than words can say!

"MAKE-IT-SNAPPY-MONDAY"
For today's MISM project, I chose to work with Stampin' Up!'s new "Storytime" designer paper! I love this paper collection--it reminds me of "Dick and Jane" from my childhood era. To make this quick card, I cut the ABC blocks and a block from the writing paper design and then sponged the edges. The punched frog is from one of the paper designs, and I layered it onto a 1" Riding Hood Red circle, which was layered onto a Very Vanilla Postage Stamp punched shape that was also sponged with Crumb Cake ink. The "Happy Birthday" sentiment is from the "Memorable Moments" stamp set. Other Stampin' Up! products used to create this card include 3/4" Circle punch, Cherry Cobbler seam binding, and Pool Party card stock for the card. This card is proof positive that some of Stampin' Up!'s paper patterns can easily come to the rescue when you need a quick card!

"FREESTYLE FRIDAYS"
Last week, Julie shared a Freestyle Fridays project featuring embossed ribbon on a card that she had sponged with three colors of ink, and she issued a mission for me to feature sponging with three colors this week and to use ribbon--a lot or a little. At first, I thought it might be quite a challenge, but then I had an idea. That's the good thing about missions/challenges . . . they make you think! For my card, I knew that I wanted to use some of Stampin' Up!'s newest products, and I used "For the Birds" stamp set and one of the "Delicate Designs" embossing folders. For the background, I used Sponge Daubers to apply Calypso Coral, Pool Party, and Daffodil Delight ink. The other side of the card actually looked better, but I placed the card stock upside-down in the embossing folder and had to use the side that you see. Actually, I'm not sure what is considered "upside-down" with this embossing folder. Normally, I consider the raised edges of the folder to be the back since it's going to push into the card stock, thus creating the embossed texture. With this lacy design, though, I thought it looked more like lace (especially after it was lightly sanded) when I used what I would normally consider the backside because the larger areas are debossed. Most of Stampin' Up!'s embossing folders, if not all of them, are designed so that the Sizzix/Stampin' Up! logo is the front (right-side-up) and, if using that to gauge the front/top of the embossed design, then it is shown (politically) correct in the photo. Anyway, moving right along, after punching the 2-3/8" Scallop Circle, I used the Stamp-a-ma-jig to know exactly where to stamp the image, which was colored with markers. The two ruffled ribbons that I used are Pool Party and Calypso Coral, and the finishing touch to the card was the addition of three rhinestone jewels along the top of the sentiment banner. Card stock colors are Whisper White and Calypso Coral, and this card is 4.75" square. Surprise, surprise . . . yet another square card. Thank you, Julie, for yet another fun mission!!! If you haven't tried any of Julie's missions, you really should!
